Internship Opportunities:

We have many exciting ongoing software and data projects for advanced undergraduate and experienced graduate students. The internship can be formatted for a student capstone project or scoped for a poster presentation and write­up if required for course credit. As a member of the engineering team, you will be contributing to the development of a sustainable procurement management systems to help evaluate the environmental, social, and fiscal impacts of institutional procurement. Will assist with field tests at the test range, working at the test bench, documenting findings, compiling data, and performing related work. Will assist in developing test plans, procedures, reports, and requirements traceability. Will document and analyze test cases and compile progress reports.

Job Requirements:

  • Student for BS in Electrical & Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related
  • Coursework in embedded systems, PCBs, or ARM processors.
  • Coursework in C++, Python or other scripting languages
     

Ideal Experience:

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the team’s research and development activities; participate and lead some of the efforts. 
  • Formulate research problems based on intelligence community needs and conduct high-quality research. 
  • Develop software system and application prototypes of the proposed solutions. 
  • Conduct experiments to evaluate the performance and effectiveness of the solutions. 
  • Create proof-of-concept technology demonstrations. 
  • Write well-structured and re-usable code in programming languages such as Java, C/C++, and Python. 
  • Generate creative solutions (patents) and publish research results in top venues (papers).
  • Collaborate with researchers at world-class universities
  • Interact with startup companies that provide technology to government sponsors
  • Interface with intelligence community seniors about technology and data science

Requirements

  • Strong coding ability in Python, GPU-programming in Linux environment
  • Masters with 3+ years of industry experience minimum. A Ph.D. is preferred, in a field of machine learning or related field
  • Experience putting together large-scale systems
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills and algorithms analysis
  • Good communications skills

Job #052502

We are looking for undergraduates in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, and related majors with experience in Internet of Things (IoT) to aid in the research and development of IoT projects taking place here at the Qualcomm Institute (Calit2).

This is an unpaid internship; however, arrangements can be made to earn academic credit as an ECE 199 or CSE 199 (Independent Study) course, which can be used towards satisfying technical electives. Also, if students' skills are satisfied enough, they can have a chance to attend several Hackathons with other undergraduate interns.

For this project, it is recommended that students have:

  • Experience using development boards, such as the Dragonboard 410c, Raspberry Pi, chipKIT, etc.
  • General programming knowledge, especially in C/C++ and Python 2/3
  • Ability to implement circuit components and I2C’s
  • Familiarity in receiving and sending data over serial communication
  • Basic knowledge of networking, such as sending data to/from the TCP and HTTP/2
  • Basic experience in using and navigating through BASH (command line shell)
  • Special programming knowledge such as NodeJS, AngularJS, Google's material design, Unity, and so forth
  • Knowledge in producing documentation (such as flow charts and state machine diagrams) is a plus
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and with others
