Abstract

The students of the Real-World Grid Operations Course would like to invite you to a webcast from inside the California independent System
Operator, CAISO, one of the world’s most advanced system operators, on: Keeping the Lights on in California - Live Webcast from Inside CASIO Come listen to, and interact with, three of CAISO’s most experienced system operators. Witness, in real-time, the minute-to-minute critical activities of its operators from within the control room. This is a first, not only for UCSD, but for any university.

Seminar Speaker Bio
Larry Bellnap – Larry has over 44 years of electrical field experience. Before joining CAISO, he was involved with power generations, system operations,
power trading and power scheduling. For the last 21 years, he has been with CAISO, as an Hour Ahead Operator & BEEPER, then Shift Manager. He now the manager of CAISO’s Balancing Authority Operations.

Brandon Russell – Joined CAISO 15 years ago from the Marine Corps. At CAISO, he served as Operator in Training, Hour Ahead / Day Ahead market operator and Real Time Scheduler. For the last 10 years he has been serving as a Real Time Generation Dispatcher.

Ricardo Perez - Joined the CAISO in 2005 as an Interchange Scheduler. He served as Day Ahead Scheduler, Real Time Trader and consequently a Power Marketer. In 2013, was promoted to the Transmission Dispatcher position, and currently one of six Lead Transmission Dispatchers.
