Research Experience for Undergraduates in Montana

The active research groups of the Montana State University Electrical and Computer Engineering Department will offer 8 – 10 REU positions during summer 2019

Research: Most projects in this program involve developing and using optical and acoustic techniques to understand the world around us. A detailed listing of research projects for the summer of 2019 can be found at ece.montana.edu.

Education: Each participant will work closely with a faculty mentor and will gain hands experience in active research laboratories. In addition to the hands on research, students will participate in a number of group activities aimed at developing the skills necessary to succeed in research.

Montana State University, Bozeman: Montana State University is situated in the spectacular Gallatin Valley surrounded by Absaroka, Gallatin, Hyalite, Tobacco Root, Spanish Peaks, and Bridger Mountain Ranges. The summer months offer outstanding opportunities for outdoor recreation and other activities associated with the university and the vibrant Bozeman community.

Practical Details: The summer 2019 program will run from June 3 to August 9. Stipends will be $5,000, travel costs to and from Bozeman will be covered, $1,000 for meals and university residence hall lodging will be provided.

Eligibility: Participants must be full-time undergraduates, typically finishing their freshman, sophomore or junior years. Applicants from underrepresented groups are particularly welcome. The REU program is intended to provide an introductory research experience to undergraduate students considering graduate education and a career in research. Applicants should address how this experience might facilitate their pursuit of these goals in the application. Participation is limited to US citizens and lawful permanent residents.
